What We Know About “Top Gun: Maverick”

Tom Cruise is making another movie but this is one you’ll want to see

Everybody can tell Tom Cruise is a prominent guy in the movie business. Like, he’s a really active actor. He does his own stunts, produces and stars in his own movies, and basically does whatever he wants and I can’t imagine a better kind of lifestyle.

However, if you’ve been watching the same Tom Cruise movies I have, you’ll also know that none of these movies are very good. Just the other day I was talking to the biggest Tom Cruise fan I know, and she’s pretty much jumped off the bandwagon, and it’s not because of the Scientology thing. Between The Mummy, The Edge of Tomorrow, and every single Jack Reacher or Mission Impossible movies, it’s no secret he has a single character he just renames and plays over and over again.

But there’s one character that lives on in our hearts, and while he might be that same exact action-hero character, he came first which makes it okay. His name is Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. We all love Mav and his bad-boy rebelliousness, and Tom Cruise is blessing us all by finally officially beginning to film a sequel to the iconic film Top Gun.

This sequel is officially titled Top Gun: Maverick, in case we were all concerned that, despite producing it, Tom Cruise wasn’t going to star in it and bring Maverick back. Never fear, Mav will be coming back to the big screen, as well as Ice Man and a dead Goose’s son being played by Miles Teller, of Fantastic Four, The Spectacular Now, and Divergent fame.

Kelly McGillis will not be returning as a romantic lead opposite Tom Cruise, but her shoes have been filled by Jennifer Connelly. We don’t know much about Connelly’s character except that she is a single mother who runs a bar. How she meets Maverick and the two end up recreating the iconic motorcycle scene, nobody knows. We’ll just have to wait until next June.
